General safety concerns – bar petty theft in tourist areas – are generally not an issue in Morocco. However, events of May 2003 which saw a series of terrorist attacks in Casablanca means that people visiting the country should be vigilant when in crowded tourist areas. Health concerns in Morocco range from insect, reptile and other animal bites through heat exhaustion, altitude sickness and on to issues such as Hepatitis, Polio and Typhoid. Visiting a doctor before travelling to the country is advisable, as they can provide the necessary information and vaccinations for the trip. Water should be bought bottled or otherwise sterilised, as should milk. Meat should be thoroughly cooked before consumption, and vegetables should be cooked and peeled.
